Major achievements, development activities of Jammu Municipal Corporation highlighted

Jammu, June 7: Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor JMC alongwith Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor, Narinder Singh, Chairman Health & Sanitation Committee, Kuldeep Singh Chairman Social Justice Committee, Avny Lavasa, Commissioner JMC held a press conference at Town Hall Jammu and highlighted the Major achievements and development activities of Jammu Municipal Corporation undertaken from the last more than two & half years after the election of the corporation. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor told the media persons that the much awaited 74th constitution amendment has been got done by the collective & sincere efforts of all the Councillors and functions/functionaries of various department such as Social Welfare, Primary Education, PWD (city division), Primary Health Centers, Urban Forestry, Floriculture etc has transferred to Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Another major achievement is installation of more than 80,000 LED street lights as well as high mast lights in all the wards of the city and the process for installation of more LED lights in the leftover areas is under way, record revenue in almost all the sections has been collected in the last three years which has increased in comparison with the previous years.
He further said that from last two & half years more than 3000 building permissions (2830 residential, 250 commercial) through online system has been granted to the citizens of Jammu without any further delay & harassment. The work on prestigious project of Solid Waste Management is under process. Again under “My Town My Pride” scheme a special funds of Rupees Five Crore has got been sanctioned by the collective efforts of the elected representatives, multiple development activities at Municipal land at Bandhu Rakh has also been undertaken by raising the protection wall at the site to save it from any type of illegal encroachments and more than 57 Kanals of Municipal land at Chatha has been got retrieved from illegal encroachers and proper/concrete fencing has been done.
Another major achievement of JMC during this period is creation of seven Engineering Divisions with sufficient technical staff for carrying out development activities in a very smooth and professional manner as earlier there was only two divisions in the year 2018.
Moreover, the prestigious project of construction of multi storey car parking at Municipal land at Panjtirithi is under progress as well as modern Gowshala at PanjGrai Near Nagrota over 100 kanals of land is also beig undertaken and the chain fencing alongwith other allied works has been completed. With the continuous initiatives of all the councillors “Jammu Smart City Project '' has been shifted to JMC by nominating its Commissioner as CEO of the project.
Lieutenant Governor of U.T of J&K has already being requested to grant special incentives as well as wages on the pattern of U.T to the safaisathies of JMC who are working tirelessly & with full dedication in this period of crises of Covid-19 pandemic.
