CCCs in panchayats wastage of public money, says Sarpanch Tarvea
‘Sub Health Centres were better choice’

Early Times Report

Poonch, June 9: Underlining the flaws in the Government’s move of setting up of five bedded Covid Care Centers (CCC) at Panchayat levels across the J&K UT, the Sarpanch Tareva in Poonch District has termed the move as a futile exercise.
Balveer Kaur, Sarpanch Tareva, while talking to Early Times said, “Instead of providing funds to the tune of lakhs in setting up of these five bedded Covid Care Centers, these funds should be spent in respective Sub Health Centers to strengthen the health facilities to make arrangements for Covid patients where all required infrastructure is already available.”
She further said that these Covid Care Centers are not serving any purpose, and giving Rs 1 lakh in each panchayat for creation of CCCs is only wastage of public money. “It has been seen that in some panchayats, the concerned sarpanchs get their picture clicked near beds and then close it. The picture is submitted to the concerned department and the center is closed,” she alleged, further adding in most the panchayats, the CCCs have no basic facilities like water, oxygen, fan and most importantly toilets which exposes the intention of government.
She said that it is common sense how these CCCs can benefit the COVID patients in absence of facilities. “These centers should have been set up at Sub Health Centers in every panchayat where Anganwari workers and doctors are available,” she said.
She said, “There are no health facilities in our area, even the commitment given by a former Deputy Commissioner to provide an ambulance and a doctor at Sub Health Center Tareva has not been fulfilled till date.”
“Panchayat Tareva is just near the border and local residents had to face shelling which caused casualties but due to absence of medical facilities residents couldn’t even get first aid,” she added.
