GDC Udhampur pay tributes to Guru Arjun Dev Ji

Jammu, June 14: NSS Unit of GDC Udhampur paid a heart touching tribute to Guru Arjun Devji, the fifth Guru of Sikhs, today to mark the sacrifices made by him to save humanity on the whole.
In this context, a webinar was organized in which about 50 NSS Volunteers of the college, college faculty and social workers from various parts the state participated.
The webinar started with a formal welcome address given by NSS PO Dr Rippy Bawa wherein she welcomed the participants and deliberated on the life of Guru Arjun Devji.
She awared the volunteers of the significance of the sacrifice made by the Guruji which was not meant to safeguard only Sikhism but the humanity in general. The welcome address was followed by a lecture by Simran Kaur, semester 4 student, in which she talked about the importance of Shaheedi gurupurab in detail. She also brought into light the tortures under which Guru Arjun Devji was put by the Mughals who wanted him to breach his religion.
Master Rahul Sharma spoke about teachings of the Guru which can bring a total change in one’s life if followed. He also told the gathering about the relevance of distributing ' shabeel' on this particular day.
This was followed by a speech from Rohit Kumar, a volunteer from 6th semester. He talked about one of the unique features of Sikhism i.e equality, which can be seen in gurdwaras where langar is served to all irrespective of their caste, colour, creed. Three of the senior volunteers, sonali Bharti, Prashant Khajuria and Harjeet, all from 6th semester also deliberated on the life and teachings of Guru Arjun Devji.
An active social worker from district Samba, Suneha, also spoke on this occasion. The event was managed by Rahul Sharma.
Prof Gurvinder Raj Verma, HoD Sericulture, also shared his views on the ongoing topic and congratulated the NSS Unit for organizing such an event. The others present amongst the participants were Prof Babu Lal Thakur, Prof Ramesh Attri, Prof Kamal Kishore, Sh. Shashi Sharma, Prof Kamaldeep Kaur from GCW Neeli Nallah and others.
The whole programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal of the college, Prof Subhash Chander Sharma who also awarded the participants about the historical significance of this day and also appreciated the NSS Unit for organizing and celebrating such events.
