World Refugee Day: 3-years after central rule in J&K, woes of refugees unresolved
6/21/2021 12:22:42 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 20: The whole world is celebrating World Refugee Day on June 20 to highlight and solve issues of refugees but in J&K displaced people feel cheated and betrayed by those at the helm of the affairs.
A handout issued by former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta on June 15 is a glaring example that J&K the administration is harassing refugees in the name of state subject.
After the abrogation of Article 370, there is no importance of state subject but authorities are directing refugees to produce state subject for getting benefits of welfare scheme.
When articles 370 and 35-A were removed, it was promised that all refugees, especially those from West Pakistan would live a respectable life but promises made by these refugees are yet to be fulfilled.
Sources said that it was all due to the failure of the J&K administration to solve problems of refugees that Union Home Minister on June 18 had given directions to solve the problems of these refugees. The Union Home Minister has directed to ensure the benefits of the refugee package to all the refugees from PoJK, West Pakistan and those who had to migrate from Kashmir to Jammu at the earliest. Instead of solving their problems authorities are harassing these poor refugees because officers are very much aware that no one will take action against them due to prevailing anarchy in the administration.
Kavinder Gupta had raised serious concern over the callous attitude of the administration for harassment being caused to the refugees in the name of State Subject Certificate. He has sought immediate intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha while appealing him to direct the authorities concerned to stop harassing these refugees in the name of State Subject certificate and provide them the benefits under the Laadli Beti Scheme.
Gupta said he has been consistently receiving complaints from refugees that they are being deprived of the benefits under the Laadli Beti Scheme as the concerned authorities are asking them to submit their State Subject certificate along with the other required documents failing which they would not be eligible for the benefits under the aforesaid scheme.
