| Abdullahs distance from Mehbooba’s Pak remarks | | Zor Ka Jhatka! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: In a significant development, former Chief Minister and National Conference patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah and his successor, Omar Abdullah have distanced themselves from the remarks of the their counterpart from Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti that India should hold dialogue with Pakistan. Talking to reporters in New Delhi ahead of meeting the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, both Dr Abdullah and his son distanced themselves from the stand of their PDP partner in the PAGD. Talking to reporters separately, Dr Abdullah said that Mehbooba’s remarks were her personal and could be of the party she heads but that NC has nothing to do with that.
Omar Abdullah also avoided to support Mehbooba on her remarks during a separate interaction with the media.
The national leadership of the BJP including national spokesman Guru Prakash hailed the role of Abdullahs for their distancing from Pakistan remark as made by the PDP President. He said it was a good development.
Analysts said the stand of the Abdullahs would affect the bonhomie between NC and PDP, the two parties who had gone together, as one team, to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
On June 22, Mehbooba said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should hold talks with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue for peace and prosperity in the region. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Gupkar alliance, she said that the "Prime Minister should talk to Pakistan too".
“If our government can go to Doha and talk to the Taliban, they should have a dialogue with us and with Pakistan too in order to bring about a resolution,” she said.
The leaders of the constituent parties of the PAGD, including Mufti and CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami, and the Abdullahs called on the Prime Minister to discuss Kashmir.
Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was also present on the occasion. |
