UDA terms new land law as big conspiracy against Mahajan, Khatri, Sikh communities
7/9/2021 10:45:56 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 9: Convener United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Jammu and Kashmir, Rajiv Mahajan termed the caste based system in purchasing and selling land in Jammu and Kashmir under new Land Laws amended be BJP-led central government after abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A as a conspiracy against Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities.
"In India, any people in anywhere in the country can purchase and sell land but it is extremely depressing that Mahajans and Khatris of Union Territory of J&K cannot purchase even one Marla of Agricultural land whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities," Rajiv Mahajan said in statement issued here on Friday.
He said that Mahajan and Khatri community of J&K always played a key role in various fields in the development of Jammu and Kashmir but it is a matter of strong discrimination that these communities have been kept away from the selling and purchasing agriculture land.
“Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs of the Union Territory have started facing new inequality as they have been deprived certain rights of sale and purchase of agriculture land,” he said adding that at least more than 10 lakh Mahajans, over five lakh Khatris and lakhs of Sikhs have been deprived of their fundamental right to buy or sell agricultural land.
“This is blatantly unfair and the Central Government should re-examine the issue holistically and amend Section 133-H of J&K Land Revenue Act, Samvat 1996 in order to do away with this suo moto bureaucratic conspiracy against Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs” he said.
Rajiv Mahajan has sought direction to the Inspector General of Registration J&K to immediately direct the Registrars and Deputy Registrars not to deny registration of agricultural land to Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs by wrongly applying Order No. 546-C of 1939 issued under Section 6 of the obsolete J&K Alienation of Land Act enacted during Maharaja Hari Singh’s time and repealed on October 26, 2020.
Rajiv also expressing concern over the silence of Mahajan Khatri and Sikh community leaders over the most important issued for their rights’ and dignity. He said if Mahajan community leaders failed to raise voice against such anti-Mahajan community decision of government then they should resign from various posts from Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha. He appealed to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to look into the matter seriously and revoke this injustice in the new land laws of the UT. The signatories to the statement included Lt Gen. (Retd.) Pradeep Singh Mehta Principal Advisor, Manish Sahni (Former Convener), IG (Retd.) Sudhir Dogra General Secretary, Co- Conveners Col. (Retd.) S.S Pathania, Com. (Retd.) Bhushan Devan, Col. (Retd.)
