Delimitation Commission exposed lies, deceptive politics of BJP: Harsh Dev
7/16/2021 10:34:14 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 16: “With Delimitation Commission flatly refusing the de-freezing of 8 seats out of 24 seats reserved for PoJK despite repeated drum beating by motor mouthed saffron leaders, the deceptive politics of BJP has once again come to fore”. This was stated by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh Chairman-JKNPP and Former Minister while addressing a press conference in Jammu today.
Speaking to media persons here in Jammu, Mr. Singh said that the BJP had been making loud pronouncements of de-reserving 8 seats out of 24 seats kept vacant in J&K legislature for PoJK and providing the same to migrants of the said territory residing in Jammu and elsewhere. The assurances in this regard were made at the time of Assembly and Parliament elections and the said promises were even incorporated in the “Vision Document” of BJP released during 2014 elections, said Singh.
“After winning the elections the BJP however failed to initiate any action to bring about necessary amendments on the subject in the law so as to de-freeze the said seats. No proposal was ever mooted by BJP either in Assembly or in Parliament at the time of passage of ‘J&K Re-organization Act’ to de-freeze the said seats. So much so that even during the APM meet chaired by PM, the BJP leaders failed to highlight the issue and to seek amendment in the relevant law”, regretted Mr. Singh.
Singh expressed his dismay that rather than raising the issue at the appropriate forums for de-freezing of seats reserved for PoJK, the BJP dunder-heads chose to indulge in bravado and bombast by making absurd statements in media. No initiative was ever taken to introduce the necessary amendment in the J&K legislature during their coalition rule or even in Parliament thereafter to effect the said changes in the reserved seats. And while they preferred to remain tight lipped over the issue in All Party Meet as well, they projected the said demand before Delimitation Commission deliriously oblivious of the fact that the said commission had no mandate to alter the number of seats as fixed by the Parliament or to de-freeze the same.
And by projecting the said issue before the Delimitation Commission, they only rendered themselves as objects of contemptuous humorous disparagement, asserted Mr. Singh. “What could be expected of the party whose leadership is completely ignorant of the procedures and principles and even unaware of their role as representatives of a highly deprived and incarcerated region whose championing that had loudly professed.
Such leaders and parties who have been thriving on falsehood, deception and subterfuge should be prepared now to face the ire of the masses who had catapulted them to power, maintained the JKNPP Chairman. He cautioned the people of Jammu region to remain vigilant and not to fall a prey to the deceptive politics of power hungry politicians who had neither the merit nor capacity to espouse the cause of Jammu region.
Gagan Pratap Singh (State Secretary-JKNPP) and Surinder Chouhan (District President Jammu Rural of JKNPP) were also present in the press conference.
