Developing industrial estates at Jammu is still a distant dream

Jammu, July 16: With much publicity, Jammu and Kashmir government had announced the allocation of a land bank of over 6,000 acres for creating industrial estates but there is no further progress in this regard.
The land-bank of over 6,000 acres of land was announced on attract investors in Jammu province to develop this region as a business centre in identified sectors.
Highly placed sources said that as the Jammu region was going to be benefitted from this project, some forces in the administration were creating hurdles in its proper implementation.
“Nothing has been changed as far as incentives for industrials are concerned because anti-Jammu elements, who are helm of the affairs are very much aware that such project would change socio-economic conditions of the people of this region, so they are creating obstacles”, sources said.
The Jammu and Kashmir’s Industries and Commerce Department had allocated a land-bank for creating modern age industrial estates to help the business grow in identified sectors in the month of August 2020.

It was announced that the decision was the part of the UT Administration’s effort to create an industry-friendly environment where the investors can explore, invest, grow and brand J&K at the national level. The last industrial estate was established in the Ghatti area of the Kathua district.
The identified areas where new industrial estates were being proposed to be established, would witness a boost in the local economy, generation of employment opportunities, and overall development of the area.
