DLEC Ramban reviews implementation of District Environment Committee Plan
DC asks Civic bodies, PDA to intensify anti-polythene drive

RAMBAN, July 16: District-Level Environment Committee (DLEC) today met here under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam to discuss and review the implementation of District Environment Plan conservation and management of the environment in the district.
Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal; Chief Medical Officer, Dr, Fareed Bhat; Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board, Anupam Kaul; Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Rambann Sunil Sharma and others attended the meeting in the DC office, while Chief Executive Officer, Patnitop Development Authority, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Ramban, District Panchayat Officer, Chief Education Officer, Divisional Forest Officers, Executive Officers of MC Banihal and Batote and other concerned officers joined the meeting through virtual mode.
The meeting discussed Construction & Demolition Waste Management Plan, Pollution Abatement in Non- attainment Cities, Control in Identified Polluted River Stretches, Industrial Waste Water Management Plan, Domestic Sewage Management Plan, Mining Activity Management Plan/ Prevention of Illegal Sand Mining, Hazardous Waste Management Plan, E-Waste Management Plan, Water Quality Management Plan, Air Quality Management Plan, Noise Pollution Management Plan, Restoration of water Bodies in each Village.
The DC directed the PCB to take up the issue with the service provider to finalize a proposal to establish a Solid Waste Management Plant for MC Batote and the same shall be replicated for Ramban & Banihal MCs as per action plan submitted in DEP. He also directed Tehsildar Banihal to expedite the identification of land measuring 10 Kanal at Banihal for establishment of Solid Waste Management.
Inquiring about proper disposal of Biomedical Waste generated at different Health Institutions of the district, the DC directed Chief Medical Officer to ensure implementation of Bar coding in all HCFs (Govt/Private) in the district so that Bio Medical Waste generated can be tracked.
The DC directed PDA, Municipal bodies, RDD to intensify an anti-polythene-drive and renovation of existing and construction of new works to protect as well as rejuvenate water bodies across the district.
The DC directed the PDA to enforce complete ban on single use plastic in PDA jurisdiction, besides ensuring proper sanitation of areas for the convenience of visitors. He also directed the Executive Officer Municipal Committee Batote to assist PDA in maintaining cleanliness of the Patnitop area.
Besides reviewing the status of action taken by the different departments about activities proposed by their respective departments under the District Environment Plan, the DC passed directions to concerned officers to take strict action against the violators.
During the meeting, the DC stressed upon taking effective steps for improving the parameters of the environment conservation in the district including widespread plantation initiatives, measures to curb use of plastic/ polythene, improving disposal of solid waste and hospital waste etc.
