Sikh Organizations appeal LG to hold Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee elections
7/16/2021 11:25:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 16: An emergency meeting of various sikh organizations J&K held under the chairmanship of S. Mohinder Singh Chief Organiszer Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Sewa society J&K and Ex-member District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Jammu.
In the meeting all the members have strongly requested the govt. to hold the Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee J&K elections henceforth as there are already standing orders of the high court and the present elected has already completed its term last year and they have no sanction of law to continue further even for a day.
"The present body is misusing the funds by making unwarranted constructions and is also not giving proper salary to Granthies and Sewadars who are entitled for reasonable hike but this can be done only by the new elected body as the present body has no authority to take any decision in any manner. It is also a fact that govt. have already initiated the process of elections in the month of March and completed the voter list by the end of April 2021 however due to corona outbreak the elections were not conducted due to unavoidable circumstances", they said.
It is also impressed upon the government as when elections of local body are being taken place in various states of the country then why government is not conducting elections in compliance to High court orders and also expiry of term of the present body.
It was further impressed upon that Union govt. should also reserve two seats for Sikhs in the Parliament too to give representation to Sikhs who are POK 1947 refugees.
