Revise terms of reference for DC, demands JKSAC
7/23/2021 11:23:10 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 23: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has appealed the central government to revise terms of reference specified for Delimitation Commission (DC) to accommodate constitutional aspirations of DPs of 1947 from PoK while redrawing the constituencies of UT of J&K as the feedback in this regard has been provided to the Commission by the representatives.
In a meeting of JKSAC held here today at Gole Gujral, the participants urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that two constituencies in proportion to their population/votes be demarcated in Jammu region and simultaneously provision for their nomination maybe created on the line as existed for women in erstwhile J&K State assembly and in this regard a memorandum has been submitted to Delimitation Commission panel headed by Justice Ranjana Desai on 8th July 2021.
Addressing the meeting JKSAC president Gurdev Singh along with Kulwant Singh, Harpal Singh and Gurteg Singh apprised the participants that JKSAC since its inception in 1967, left no stone unturned to highlight the political discrimination meted out to DPs by refusing their legitimate constitutional rights of representation for the last seven decades. He said that Delimitation is meant to give representation to only those sections of society who remained unrepresented and denied justice in this regard.
He further said that after the historical abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A it was expected that some provisions would be made in the reorganization act to accommodate DPs aspirations along with other issues, but unfortunately nothing happened as such and DPs were deprived of their rights and made to wait for another 20 to 30 years till next delimitation commission is announced or POK is liberated.
JKSAC criticized the leaders of all the political parties particularly BJP and Congress for not raising the DPs settlement issues in the historical meeting called by the PM on 24th June this year.
Singh also appealed to Lt Governor Manoj K Sinha to take up the DPs' issue with the PM as discussed and promised in a meeting held on December 19, 2020.
