In 3-years, over 30,000 bogus ration cards detected in J&K

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 27: Over 30,000 bogus ration cards have been deleted in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three years. These bogus ration cards have been detected after authorities started the process to link cards with Aadhaar.
Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday said that under the National Food Security Act, Aadhaar seeding of ration cards ensure uniqueness of beneficiaries in public Distribution System (PDS), avoiding duplicate/bogus ration cards/beneficiaries.
“So far, more than 92 percent ration cards (at least one member of the household) have been Aadhaar seeded at the national level”, she said.
As per data shared by the Minister in the year 2018, when there was the political government in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir only 3,428 bogus ration cards were detected. But the campaign to identify fake and fraudulent ration cards was intensified after the imposition of central rule in J&K.
In the year 2019, 13869 bogus ration cards were detected and cancelled. In the year 2020, 13224 fake ration cards were cancelled.
Important to mention here that in the year 2015, Central Vigilance Committee on Public Distribution System had pinpointed bogus ration cards. It was mentioned in the committee’s report that undeserving people had managed BPL ration cards in J&K.
In the report, the Committee had pointed out that the identification of BPL beneficiaries was not carried out in the right earnest, with financially healthy people managing to get these ration cards.
The report also carries a photograph to substantiate that the BPL survey in the state was not done properly and many ineligible families have BPL ration cards.
Shockingly, instead of taking concrete steps to eradicate this menace, the successive political governments tried to hide this blunder reasons best known to them.
