Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 5: The lackadaisical attitude of the Administration can be gauged from the fact that the approach road to famous Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri district has been lying in dilapidated condition.
The road widening work has been going at a snail’s pace for the last 3-4 years due to which the road has not been restored while the commuters especially the students, faculty and other staff members had to face difficulty to pass through this stretch.
Although all previous governments took credit for establishing a university in the district, nobody took care of the road condition, which is dotted with numerous potholes.
“Due to the dilapidated condition of this road, the employees of this university as well as the locals had to face huge inconvenience. Initially, the road was not repaired from 2010-2015 and later the blacktopping was done but soon after road widening work was started but the work has not been completed even after the lapse of 4 years. The road developed deep pits, which has damaged the vehicles,” Assistant Professor at BGSBU Nikhil alleged. “With the non-seriousness of the administration as well as the concerned department, the work has not been completed which is getting delayed due to unknown reasons.
Earlier the widening work was allotted to a contractor and later the same contract was given to another contractor but they are not serious about completing it,” said another local resident.
He further said that the progress of the road work is almost negligible as a result commuters are bearing the brunt of bad condition of the road as several incidents of accidents have been reported due to potholes. Commercial vehicle owners have to suffer huge losses due to damage to their vehicles.
The local residents appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to take note of the issue and urged him to direct the local administration to complete the road widening work at the earliest.
