Alert Security Forces thwart major terror bid, defused IED planted by militants in Kishtwar District
Massive search operation underway in Huller-Hunjala area of Kishtwar outskirts

Kishtwar, Aug 14: A head of 75th Independence Day, the militant in Kishtwar District are hell bent to destabilise the peace and stability and in one such latest attempt, the alert security forces thwart a major terror bid after the detected and destroyed the IED on Kishtwar-Chatroo-Anantnag National Highway near Kuriya village, some 20 Km from District Headquarter.
As per the details available with Early Times, security Forces recovered an IED close to Kuriya Village in Kishtwar District and subsequently destroyed it in situ. Due to the forthcoming Independence Day, security measures were heightened in Kishtwar District.
The official sources told the Early Times that a joint patrol party of the Army and Police discovered a suspicious looking package along the road from Koriya to Shergwari in the early hours today concealed inside the package contained a tubular container and a bottle of petrol attached to it.
The official sources added that the patrol party immediately cordoned off the area and explosive detector sniffer dogs were brought in to confirm presence of explosives. On confirmation of the same, the IED was destroyed in situ by the experts. Sources stated that the road is used by the locals and security forces and it was intended by inimical elements to cause damage and disturbance in the area. It is also learned that the IED is similar to ones earlier recovered in Doda District commonly called as sticky bombs.
An FIR has been filed in this regard and security forces are investigating the case to ascertain more details and to identify the perpetrators. The investigation has been further taken up by the Police said that sources.
Meanwhile massive search operation was launched by the Kishtwar Police, 26 RR, 17 RR and 52 BN CRPF in Huller and Hunjala area in the outskirts of Kishtwar town following inputs of presence of two Hizb militants in the area.
The operation which is still underway when last reports came in is being supervised by SSP Kishtwar . No contact has been established with the militants when last came in.
The senior officials told the Early Times that the operation will continue till the whole area combing will not be completed.
“It is premature to say whether the reported militants are still hiding in the area or they mange to give us the slip— but we are not ready to take any chance— so the operation will remain continue” said a senior officials.
Keeping in view of the Independence Day, all the entry and exit points leading to Kishtwar town has been sealed and majority of the vehicles entering Kishtwar town are being frisked and searched by the police.
