Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 18: Hari Chand Jalmeria conducted two days tour of Billawar area and participated in various activities and programmes organized by the citizens.
At Mandli, social and intellectual group of people of the area held a special meeting on the occasion of 75th Independence Day. Prominent Dogri Poets including Shivdev Singh Sushil, Krishan Singh Jasrotia, Ashok Amber, Mohd Rafiq and HC Jalmeria recited their poems.
On this occasion, prominent persons of the Billawar area including Shanti Sarup Basotra, Sudesh Sapolia, Krishan Chand Verma, Joginder Singh, Hari Chand Miyan, Raghunath Singh, Gian Chand, Mahel Singh, Makhan Lal Dogra, Bhagat Ram Magotra, Subhash Chander also expressed their views. It was decided to carry on such get togethers at regular intervals at different places of the area. The participants expressed concern over the younger generations disconnecting from the mother tongue Dogri and Dogra Culture.
Dogri is not being taught in schools and colleges with enthusiasm. Parents are growingly shifting from Dogri to Hindi or English while speaking to their children. Folk songs like Bhakh, marriage related songs are not being transmitted to the next generations. It was decided to work on these subjects. Sudesh Sapolia presided over this function. Non repair of breach in the Duran-Dangara canal for last 5/6 weeks was raised in the meeting. This has endangered the paddy crop in Dangara, Durang and Mandli villages. Breach in Seri-Mooni canal also has not been repaired. The irrigation authorities, when approached by the farmers have replied that they had no funds for the purpose.
At Sachara, situated near Macchedi, a joint public meeting of Kisan Sabha and Billawar Zila Andolan was held where hundreds of people participated. Dr. Ghanisham Singh Charak of All India Kisan Sabha was the Chief Guest. Hari Chand Jalmeria State President Kisan Sabha and Convener Billawar Zila Andolan while speaking to the people said that the Government has been repeatedly ignoring the demand for creation of Billawar District for the areas covered under six tehsils including tehsils of Billawar, Ramkot, LohaiMalhar-Macchedi, Mahanpur, Basohli and Bani.
The Billawar Zila Andolan is in struggle for creation of this district with headquarter in Billawar for the past over twenty years. The government created districts at smaller places in Kashmir but ignored very genuine claim of this area. This is great discrimination, added Jalmeria.
He also expressed concern over the bad condition of roads in the hilly areas like Billawar-Macchedi-Badnota-Lohai-Sadrota road, Billawar-Katli-Marhoon-Malhar road, Mandli-Kohag-Kurhetar road, Kohag-Dhanno Parole road. He demanded early connectivity of Billawar-Dhaggar through road by constructing tunnel at Dehri Gala. Jalmeria also asked the Govt. to immediately repair the Durang-Dangara and Seri-Mooni canals.
Dr. Ghanisham Singh Charak said that the Govt is pursuing anti-farmers policies to promote the interests of Big Capital houses. The Govt is not even purchasing wheat from farmers are the minimum prices fixed by it. The farmers are left to be exploited in the hand of private business houses.
