Udhampur: Amid COVID-19 threat, industries pollute air

Udhampur, Aug 23: While the residents in Udhampur town are taking all precautions to avoid COVID-19 infection, industries in the area are polluting the air with thick black smoke emanating from there tall chimneys.
While different sections of the society here have expressed concern over the issue, the concerned authorities have failed to take a cognisance of the wrong doing.
People at Battal Ballian where industrial estate of Udhampur is established are living a miserable life due to air pollution.
“Pollution remains at peak in evening and night hours,” said, Radhey Sham.
He said that he has to stop breathe though he has already mask over his face, to avoid polluted air enter his lungs. “Many times the matter has been taken up with the Industries Department as well as district administration Udhampur but no action has been taken by any authority,” Fateh Singh, another local said.
Santoshi Devi, Sarpanch appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to direct the concerned authorities to look into the matter.
An environmental activist said as per industrial rules boundaries of industries like cement as well as chemical plants should be totally covered by green plants to reduces pollution but concerned authorities are not conducting a proper check. “It appears that officials are hand in glove with industrialists,” locals alleged.
