Awareness programme on Baby Corn organized at Sool

REASI, Aug 24: Kiran Youth Affairs & Sports Club (KYASC), a social organization, NABARD, Reasi and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized a collaborative awareness programme on intercultivation of baby corn cultivation and marigold here today at Sool village in Reasi district of J&K which was actively attended by a number of farmers and farm women of the area. The programme was initiated by KK Bhardwaj, MD, KYASC with warm welcome of the participants. He urged the participants to grow baby corn with marigold crop so that the income and employment in the area can be enhanced. He said that new innovations are needed to create some new income and employment opportunities in the area. Dr Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi spoke on the importance of baby corn and elaborated its scientific cultivation. He motivated the participants for baby corn cultivation so as their socio-economic status can be uplifted. He also spoke on the value addition in baby corn.
Adarsh Gupta, DDM NABARD, Reasi spoke on various banking schemes for the farmers. He stressed on SHGs/FPOs formation in the rural areas. Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist spoke on the scientific cultivation of marigold and added that floriculture can help to create the new income and employment opportunities in the area. Mangat Sharma spoke on the entrepreneurship development in agriculture. During this programme some quarries were raised by the participants which were answered in a satisfactorily way by the officials. Tilak Raj, an awardee farmer of the area was also present during the programme. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and Bharat Bhushan and concluded by Dr Banarsi Lal with a formal vote of thanks.
