Farmers' stir: Train services resume partially in Jammu
8/24/2021 11:07:38 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 24: Train services that remained hit due to farmers protest in the neighbouring state of Punjab, resumed partially on Tuesday with the departure of three trains and arrival of two at Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
"Train service has partially resumed this morning from Jammu Tawi Railway Station," an official said.
He said that three trains have so far arrived and two have departed.
"The service is still hit and the trains are arriving and departing few hours late from its scheduled timings," he added.
The train service remained hit for the third consecutive on Monday due to farmers staging sit-in on Jalandhar-Ludhiana railway track demanding revision in Sugarcane price.
Farmers seeking hike in sugarcane prices have blocked rail tracks and a national highway in Jalandhar.
However, Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) between Pathankot-Udhampur are operating smoothly.
Vaishno Devi pilgrims were the worst hit due to cancellation of trains.
"Farmers have blocked the rail track at Phagwara and Jalandhar to press the government for their demands," the official said.
Mostly Katra bound trains, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Kota Special, Shri Shakti, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi and Jammu Mail Express are the worst hit.
