| JMC bags 'Earth Day Municipal Leadership Award' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been conferred 'Earth Day Network Star Municipal Leadership Award' by Earth Day Network India.
The award has been conferred on JMC in recognition of its initiative of establishing first-of-its-kind Material Recovery Facility in Jammu for the processing and disposal of single use plastics.
Earth Day Network India is an environmental organization working to help restore earth with initiatives that focus on ways to re-grow green cover, rejuvenate aquifers, restore soil, refresh air, reduce and mange waste, encourage a switch-over to clean and green energies and build environmental stewardship among youth.
The award jury in a statement said that the setting up of Material Recovery Facility at Bandhu Rakh, Jammu is an excellent initiative by JMC for managing single use plastic as well as its disposal.
According to a spokesperson of JMC, the Facility is equipped with multifarious features to make it an economically socio-technical model. He said it not only addresses the Plastic Waste Management in Jammu City but also invokes best practices in terms of resources efficiency, environment compliances, basic amenities, health and safety practices and well-being. "It also acts as a support system for capacity building of the waste system, for waste pickers, waste aggregators and associated recyclers," he said and added that it also a step ahead in promoting sustainable waste management practices through collection, segregation and further recycling of plastic waste to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the environment and human health. |
