Early Times Report
KATHUA, Aug 25: DDC Chairman Kathua, Col Mahan Singh (Retd) on Wednesday said that the nation is indebted to sacrifices made by its soldiers.
The DDC Chairman was addressing a gathering on the occasion of renaming Government Higher Secondary School Barwal as Saheed Naik Yograj Singh-Shaurya Chakra HSS.
Col Mahan said that the move will go a long way in enthusing patriotism among children and other segments of society. He said that the decision of naming this school after the name of martyr Yograj has been taken to fulfill the desire of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is strongly emphasizing on renaming important buildings, roads and institutions in the names of those sons of the soil who have given supreme sacrifices for the motherland or have done something outstanding for the country. This, he said, is a unique gesture and historic step towards promotion of patriotism. It is pertinent to mention that renaming Barwal HSS was the first step in this endeavour in the district Kathua.
Governmenbt Higher Secondary School Barwal falls in Barnoti Block of Kathua District and was renamed after Saheed Naik Yugraj Singh, who had made Supreme sacrifice during Operation Rakshak in Kashmir in the year 1994.
On the occasion, DDC Chairman Kathua also honoured the wife of the martyred soldier, Veer Nari Neelam Devi. He particularly described the entire scenario under which the braveheart Yograj gave supreme sacrifice while fighting terrorists. He praised the gallant act performed by the brave soldier against terrorists wherein, he laid down his life for the motherland.
Col Mahan Singh appreciated the Modi government and UT administration for this initiative to rename institutions and roads after martyrs and prominent personalities.
