KVK Reasi organizes training programme

Jammu, Sept 6: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day farmers training programme on commercial organic farming/natural farming/cow based economy/sustainable agriculture here today at Bharakh village in Reasi district of J&K.
The programme was organised under the able guidance of Director Extension (DE) of SKUAST-J, Prof.SK Gupta. All the SOPs pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the programme. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He spoke in length on the scientific guidelines on commercial organic farming.
He narrated that there is dire need to adopt the eco-friendly agricultural practices so as to protect the soil, environment and human health. He guided farmers on organic fruits and vegetables, organic honey, organic medicinal and aromatic plants and motivated them for the commercial organic farming for more profits. He discussed on the eco-friendly agricultural techniques by which the cost of cultivation can be reduced and more profits can be made. He explained some important soil formulations for the enrichment of soil. He guided the farmers on crops productivity enhancement techniques while sustaining soil and ecosystem health through organic farming.
He demonstrated the use of fruit fly traps, sticky traps, neemcake, neemoil etc. to the farmers. He stressed on the use of Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost, biofertlizers, biofungicides, biopesticides, cow urine etc. in the soil for the commercial organic farming. He also spoke on crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc. in the organic farming. He educated the farmers on the winter vegetables and suggested them the use of quality organic seeds for better performance. KVK officials along with the farmers also visited the field of progressive farmer of the area, S.Gurdev Singh and appreciated his efforts on diversified farming.
Later on organic inputs were also provided to the farmers. In this programme various quarries were raised by the farmers which the KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the formal vote of thanks.
