Declare Maharaja’s birthday as holiday or face stir: Jammuties warn Admin
9/6/2021 11:51:55 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 6: As the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh is coming closer, anger is brewing among the people of Jammu against the administration for not declaring late Maharaja’s birthday as a holiday.
“Maharaj Hari Singh was one of the far-sighted and progressive rulers in India and people of J&K are emotionally connected with him. The administration should take a decision in favour of the people by declaring a holiday on the birth anniversary of the Maharaja,” said Ajay Singh.
“People have been staging protests in support of their demand but the aspirations of Jammuities are being ignored. Political parties failed to fulfill their promises and people are feeling betrayed,” said, Vivek Samson and Lovely Bansotra.
They lauded the great Dogra ruler for his contributions in development, social, progressive and economic reforms during his regime as a ruler of J&K and for the welfare of the J&K people. “We the people of Jammu are proud of our late Maharaja, who took bold decisions, to keep the legacy of Dogras alive. The government should announce a holiday on his birthday to honour him and to address the aspirations of Dogras,” they added.
“If the UT administration does not declare the birth anniversary of Maharaja as a public holiday, the people will be left with no other option but to launch a statewide agitation in support of their demand,” they said.
They urged the Central Government and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to declare September 23 as holiday.
