Apni Party workers stage protest, court arrest

JAMMU, Sept 6: Apni Party, Provincial President, Women Wing, Jammu, Namrta Sharma along with other large numbers of women leaders and workers gave their court arrest during a peaceful protest against price rise of essential commodities.
Led by Namrta, hundreds of women leaders and workers assembled outside Press Club, Jammu to protest against the price rise of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities. While shouting slogans against the price rise, the women leaders marched towards Dogra Chowk from Press Club, Jammu when they were surrounded by the strong contingent of women police and they were not allowed to proceed towards the Dogra Chowk crossing. As the women leaders proceeded amid minor scuffle with the police personnel, the Apni Party women leaders were stopped by the police force.
The police did not allow them to head for the road following which they gave their arrests. “A large number of women leaders and workers were taken into custody by the police in their vehicles,” said Namrta. Later, they were set free by the police, she said.
Vice President, Pavneet Kour, Vice President, Jyoti Vaid, District Coordinator Sarabjeet Kour, Provincial Secretary, Ichpal Kour, Provincial Secretary, Meenakshi, Provincial Secretary, Rakhi, Provincial Secretary, Parvinder Kour, Monika, Rajni Devi Provincial Secretary, Provincial Secretary, Parveen Kour, District Secretary, Sunita Devi and others were also present in the protest.
While speaking at the protest site, Namrta said that “The political parties are silent over the burning issues being faced by the people particularly women in Jammu and Kashmir. The Apni Party will not keep silent over issues which affect normal life and have adverse effects on the poor people,” said Namrta. Namrta said that “We have decided to come out on the roads so that we can make the Govt to wake up to the suffering of the people in general. It is not the issue of a region or a district. However, all the people are equally suffering and therefore, we should come out and protest against the price rise.” Namrta said that the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities are skyrocketing and there is no check in the market. “The black marketers are openly working and Govt. has failed to control the prices which has affected the normal lives of the people,” added the women wing, provincial president, Jammu. Meanwhile, Makhni, Raj, Preem Lata, Sapna, Semeta Kour, Geeta, Manu, Kulbir Kour, Tanvi, Maahi, Aarsh, Anju, Suman, Rani, Rajni, Manu, Sabhi, Reeta Devi, Sunita, Gagan, Sandeep, Kamal, Renu Devi, Ravndu Kour, Amarjeet Kour, Kulwant Kour, Rajinder Kour, Asha Devi, Sarfo Devi, Preeti Sharma, Sakshi, Anju Gupta, Shanti Devi, Channi Kour, Harpreet Kour, Surat Kour, Sandu Devi, Rajinder, Lajji Mehra and others gave their court arrest.
