Taliban has emerged as reality, should now govern Afghanistan by ‘real’ Sharia: Mehbooba

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 8: Asserting that Taliban has emerged as a reality, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that it should govern Afghanistan by ‘real Sharia law’ that gives rights to women, children and others.
“I think the Taliban is emerging as a reality. Their earlier image was against humanity and human rights. Now that they have come… if they want to rule Afghanistan, they should follow the actual Sharia… not what they were saying, but what is actually written in the Quran. It includes the rights of women, children, elderly people and others,” Ms Mehbooba told reporters after addressing a public gathering in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Wednesday.
Mehbooba said if they follow the real Sharia law they would become an example for the rest of the world.
However, she said if the Taliban do what they did in the 90s, then it will be difficult not only for Afghanistan but also for the entire world.
These remarks by Ms Mehbooba come hours after former chief minister and NC president Farooq Abdullah said that he hopes that Taliban delivers good governance and respects human rights in Afghanistan.
