Directorate of Ayush begins celebrations of Poshan Maah

JAMMU, Sept 8: Directorate of Ayush, J&K under the guidance of Director Dr Mohan Singh and supervision of Medical Superintendent Govt Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu Dr Vandana Dogra, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Aruna Bhat, started the celebration of Poshan Maah by growing a Poshan Vatika in the premises of Govt Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu. Poshan Vatika are nutritional gardens wherein food species which are locally acceptable and used as food are grown so that nutritious food become more accessible to the reach of common people and health institutions become more self-reliant on the supply of nutritious food. Many commonly used food species like moringa, spinanch, chenopodium, turmeric, pumpkin, amaranth, beet roots, pomegranate and other plants which are used as food were planted in the premises of Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital. While speaking on the occasion, Medical Superintendent Dr Vandana Dogra emphasized that Kitchen gardens must be grown in every household as these provide fresh, seasonal, local un adulterated produce at a very low cost which also help in health promotion and disease prevention. She further highlighted that Poshan Vatika must be made a Jan Abhiyan and must be taken to the grass root level for more community participation. All the medical officers, other officials of the hospital and interns of Ayurveda attended the program and participated zealously by planting the saplings and sowing the seeds in Poshan Vatika.
