Day heat continues, minimum temperature near normal in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Day heat continues as maximum temperature remains above normal though the minimum temperature was near normal in the Kashmir valley on Thursday.
Mirpur and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) continued to record the highest temperature in the region. The maximum temperature at Mirpora was 36.7 degree and minimum temperature 27.3 degree. At Muzaffarabad the minimum and minimum temperatures were 36.6 degree and 21 degree respectively, a Met department spokesman said this evening.
He said there will be no change during the next 72 hours when the weather will remain mainly dry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar witnessed a slight increase in the day temperature though night recorded half a degree drop. Against yesterday's 30.5 degree maximum temperature, it was 30.6 degree today, he said adding the minimum temperature was 15.2, which was 2.1 notches above normal against yesterday's 15.7 degree. The sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 31 degree and 14 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
Pahalgam, which serves as a base camp for annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir, the maximum temperature today was 26 degree, 1.9 notches above normal, about half a degree more than yesterday. However, for the second successive year the yatra was suspended due to COVID.
Gulmarg, a famous tourist resort in north Kashmir, the maximum temperature today was 21.5 degree, 2.3 degree above normal but half a notch less than yesterday. The minimum temperature was 10 degree, a notch above normal.
There was no change in the day temperature at Qazigund which remained 30.2 degree though the minimum temperature was 11.3 degree which was slightly below normal.
The maximum temperature at Kupwara and Kokernag was 32.2 degree, 3.1 notches above normal and 28.9 degree, 3.3 notches above normal respectively. The minimum temperature witnessed drop at both the places.
