CUK organizes National Urdu Science Congress

SRINAGAR, Sept 23: In an attempt to popularize science communication through Urdu language, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Ganderbal in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, organized a two-day long "National Urdu Science Congress-2021," at the University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
The theme of the Congress, which was attended by hundreds of delegates and eminent experts from Jammu and Kashmir, and other parts of the country, was "Science Communication, Popularization and Its Extension (Scope) in Urdu: The Road Ahead."
On the sidelines of the event, Dr Ashaq Hussain, Asstt Professor (Nodal Officer) Govt. Degree College Chatroo delivered an informative activity based session on hands on Chemistry in which Teachers drawn from different mobile schools of UT participated. Dr Ashaq performed more than a dozen experiments of chemistry using low cost-no cost material in order to take chemistry teaching/experiments beyond normal laboratory or class rooms.
The purpose of organizing the session was to promote science and technology in the simple and vernacular language i.e. Urdu. The main aim was to promote Urdu as a language for Science and Communication to help in better understanding of the concepts/terminology related to science and technology when promoted through vernacular languages.
The two-day programme witnessed a series of events like plenary session, panel discussion, paper presentations, poster making and model making competitions in addition to activity based sessions on different themes related to Science and Technology and its promotions through Urdu language. Besides, separate technical sessions were arranged in which faculty/experts from different institutions and universities participated and presented their papers on different themes.
