Compensate hailstorm-hit in line with Kejriwal Govt: Taranjit Singh Tony
10/25/2021 11:42:01 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 25: Taranjit Singh Tony, Member DDC Suchetgarh today took up the case of hailstorm-affected farmers with Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Anshul Garg and demanded compensation in line with the one given by Arvind Kejriwal to the farmers in Delhi after gale devastated their fields akin to that of farmers in Suchetgarh Constituency.
Tony highlighted the plight of farmers hit by incessant torrential rains that damaged the standing crops of the farmers thus shattering their hopes of getting a bumper crop this season. He also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. Citing the example of Kejriwal who had given adequate compensation to farmers hit by gale, he demanded that farmers in Suchetgarh belt should be given either Rs 50,000 per acre, Rs 5,000 per kanal or market rate of crops because their hopes have been dashed due to untimely rains.
The DDC member Suchetgarh also condemned Tehsildar Suchetgarh who allegedly carried out a lopsided assessment of crop loss due to hailstorm. He said that on the spot assessment shows that the standing crops have been devastated completely with no scope of any recovery but the aforesaid revenue official has taken a partial stand and reported that only 80 percent of crops have been damaged which is a cruel joke with the affected tiller community of the border belt.
Tony warned that if the demands of farmers will be neglected then a tractor trolley rally comprising farmers of border village Suchetgarh will be taken out on October 29 and office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu would be gheraoed.
