Mayor distributes dustbins in Shastri Nagar area

JAMMU, Nov 5: With a view to maintain better sanitation and hygiene in various markets as well as localities of Jammu City and also to stop disposal of garbage and other waste materials on road & bylanes, Mayor Jammu distributed dustbins in Shastri Nagar area today.
Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta along with Chairman of "Swachh Bharat Standing Committee" JMC, Yash Pal Sharma and Councillor of Ward No 22 Jai Deep Sharma distributed more than 300 dustbins under "Swachh Bharat Mission" among the shopkeepers of market situated at Shastri Nagar, opp Govt Girls Higher Secondary School as well in the Sabzi Mandi market in Nai Basti of Ward No 22.
Dr Sanjogita Soodan, Health Officer JMC, Rajinder Kumar Sanitation Officer, Joginder Singh Sanitary Inspector of the ward, Supervisory staff of Health Section, concerned staff of Solid Waste Management JMC, representatives of Shastri Nagar and Nai Basti Market Associations were also present during the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor said that the JMC has already taken lot of initiatives under "Swachh Bharat Mission" to make Jammu neat, clean and green city and also appeal to the shopkeepers, hoteliers and other businessmen not to throw garbage and other waste articles on the roadside, drains, lanes and corners.
He appealed them to handover the same only to the designated vehicles of JMC which have been kept exclusively for this purpose, adopt the habit of segregation of dry/wet waste at their own level separately. He also make people aware of the penalties to be imposed on defaulters and violators as per Municipal Byelaws for littering and open dumping of garbage including (C&D) waste etc and appeal to the general public to come forward & cooperate with JMC staff in all aspects so that aim of "Swachh Bharat Mission" can be achieved successfully.
