Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 20: After mass resignations of loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad Congress leaders and workers across Jammu and Kashmir are asking the question about the status of former Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand.
Tara Chand is known as staunch a supporter and a loyalist of Ghulam Nabi Azad as it was all due to Azad’s support that he (Tara Chand) was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister.
Highly placed sources said that Tara Chand has shifted his loyalty and he has decided not to go with leaders, who owe their allegiance to Ghulam Nabi Azad.
“When lists of leaders, who were going to resign from their respective party posts and positions were prepared, name of Tara Chand was on the top”, a loyalist of Azad told the Early Times and added that Tara Chand had given his consent to resign with other supporters of Azad.
Wishing anonymity the leader said that for the last some months Tara Chand has developed cordial relations with Ghulam Ahmed Mir but he was with the dissidents just to remain in the good book of Azad also.
“When all loyalists of Azad have submitted their resignations Tara Chand refused to sign the letter”, a source said and added that recently a meeting of Tara Chand was held with AICC general secretary incharge Rajni Patil in which Ghulam Ahmed Mir was also present. “In the meeting, Tara Chand was assured that he would be properly rehabilitated and accommodated in the party”, sources said and added that it was all due to this assurance Tara Chand has shifted his loyalty and has decided to work with Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
Sources further said that due to his connection with Delhi, Tara Chand has realized that the Congress high command was not going to change G A Mir, who is close to the Gandhi family so it is better to remain in his (Mir’s) camp.
Notable Tara Chand was among those leaders who were boycotting the official functions of the Congress party.
