Sparkle, JMC organize ‘Bye Bye Plastic’ drive

JAMMU, Dec 14: Sparkle: Women of Jammu in association with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized a ‘Bye Bye Plastic’ program at Rotary Club, Jammu. The function was aimed to create awareness among the masses regarding the ill effects of single use plastics and urging people from all walks of life especially the lower income group strata to give up or avid using plastic. The chief guest for the day Atul Kumar, Secretary JMC, was welcomed by Poonam Sethi, Founding Chairperson of Sparkle, Sarika Sethi Co-Founder and Gunjan Kohli, Secretary Sparkle. Shivani Gupta and Deepa, the conveners of the event welcomed Dr J P Singh, CMO who was the guest of honour for the day. Sonia Bhanot gave the formal welcome address.
The day’s program started with members of Sparkle and JMC paying homage to the brave hearts of Indian Army who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash. Candles were lit by all present at the venue. Gurpreet Handa, the Media Manager of Sparkle, said that it was because of these brave hearts and their sacrifices that each one of us lives securely in the society and that one must never forget their contributions to the Country. Vanita Thakur said that CDS General Bipin Rawat was a true soldier and always led from the front while paying homage to the soldiers who lost their lives in the ill fated chopper crash.
Later, a COVID vaccination camp was organized under the supervision of Dr Arti Nayyar along with this function so as to achieve both goals of getting rid of single use plastic and prevention of COVID 19.
The chief guest Atul Kumar lauded the efforts of the Women of Jammu for taking this initiative to work with the JMC to curb the use of plastics in Jammu as well as organizing the vaccination camp. He urged Sparkle to organize more such function in the future.
Notable among present at the program were Dr Poonam Sethi Dy CMO, Dr Shahid Hussain, State Immunization Officer, Dr Ambika Distt Immunisation Officer, Rahul Kumar Councillor Ward 20, Satbir Singh President Ward 20, Arti Kuthiala, Sapna Sethi, Chetna Khullar, Vibha, Benu Lakra, Sumi Seth(MC for the day’s program), and Jenny. The vote of thanks was delivered by Bhavna Sethi.
