| Salwa-Mendhar residents protest against release of payment for work not executed | | |

POONCH, Jan 6: Residents of village Salwa of tehsil Mendhar today staged protest outside DC Poonch against a scam alleging that department released payments more than once against a road which was never constructed.
Accusing the concerned department, the residents alleged that a road was approved for village Salwa in 2017 which was never constructed but it was shocking that the payment of the same road was released by the department several times.
“The road for our village was approved in 2017 but it was not constructed. We contacted the concerned block department but nothing was done to resolve the issue. Later we came to know that payment of the same road was released by showing that the road has been constructed on paper, which is a clear scam,” said Nizamudin Chouhan, a resident.
The locals informed that they approached the SDM Mendhar in this connection that they have been deprived of road connectivity since 2017 and a complaint was also submitted in DC Poonch office but no action has been taken till date.
“When we lodged several protests, the concerned Sarpanch started threatening us that he would not spare them for exposing the issue,” they alleged. They appealed to LG to order a probe into the scam so that culprits might be brought to book
When contacted, SDM Mendhar said that matter has to be enquired in detail for ascertaining the facts. He said that enquiry will be initiated at the earliest adding that some political rivalry between two groups cannot be ruled out. |
