Early Times Report

Anantnag, Jan 6: Despite the passage of over 4 years now, the authorities have miserably failed to make the X-Ray plant functional at Primary Health Center Khiram.
The Primary Health Center Khiram even doesn’t have a technician to run the ECG machine, hospital staff told Early Times.
Due to non-availability of ECG and X-ray testing facility, doctors are shifting patients to Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara or Government Medical College Anantnag.
“For this X-ray test we are being forced to travel to Anantnag which is 30 Km away from the village,” residents said.
Village Khiram, they said, has a population of around 12000 and the inhabitants mostly tribal and poor who can’t afford to visit private hospitals and clinics are suffering due to non-availability of basic healthcare facilities.
“PHC Khiram was provided with an X-ray plant in 2018 and since then it hasn’t been put to use and the health department didn’t deploy a technician required to run it,” residents said.
They said that the issue was several times brought into the notice of higher officials of the Health Department and District administration but it didn’t yield any positive result.
“We are demanding this hospital be made functional 24*7 but the authorities don’t fulfill our demand despite the fact that our area deserves it as we live at a very far-off place,” they added.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Anantnag on Wednesday evening issued an order and directed the Nursing Orderly to attend a ten days X-ray training course at SDH Bijbehara.
“For smooth functioning of Health Institutions and for better patient care Mr Mohd Abass Nursing Orderly of PHC Khiram shall attend ten days X-ray training course at SDH Bijbehara,” reads the order.
In addition to this, CMO Anantnag has directed X-Ray technician of PHC Marhama to attend two days in a week at PHC Khiram till Nursing Orderly completes X-ray training course.
