Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 15: Road Safety week is observed from January 11th to 17th every year with the aim to make roads and streets safer in India.
In this week-long program, many activities regarding road safety are carried out to avoid accidents and injuries and such events promote awareness, simple precautions, safety measures, and tasks that everyone can do to stop the prevalence of needless deaths every day. In order to bring consciousness among the masses, the Road Safety Club of GDC Vijaypur organized a Quiz Competition on Road Safety Awareness with the aim to raise public awareness about traffic rules and ultimately to reduce casualties due to road accidents as millions of people lose their lives and many more get injured in road accidents mainly due to lack of awareness about traffic rules or behavior of flouting them. Students from various Institutions across JK UT enthusiastically participated in the Quiz Competition.
The first position was shared by Naima Akhtar, Mohd. Imran and Mohd. Saqlain Khan of GDC Mandi; Tanya Chalotra and Avantika Sharma of GDC Vijaypur; the second position was secured by Asqar Vishal Kazmi of GDC Mandi while the third position was secured by Haroon Malik of GDC Vijaypur.
The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. She apprised the students that road safety is the prevention of road accidents and the protection of humans. It is to secure people while traveling on the roads and to make safe all the road users such as pedestrians, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, multi- wheelers, and animals. She further added that practicing road safety measures is for the safety and welfare of the people. Everyone should respect others while driving or walking on the road and take care of their safety. The event was coordinated by Dr. Kuldeep Singh (Convenor, Road Safety Club). E-certificates were awarded to all the winners.
