Jammu, Jan 15: An alleged murder of a jhuggi dweller by a powerful man at Shastri Nagar here triggered a massive protest on Saturday. The family members of the deceased while narrating the incident told reporters that a man Sanjay Sharma, who owns a three storied house at Shastri Nagar was installing a power connection. “My father requested him to ensure that wires are connected properly so that no mishap takes place. Last time many jhuggis were burnt due to a faulty power connection,” they added.
“Sharma got offended and beat up my father mercilessly. My father sustained internal injuries and collapsed. Later Sharma returned and took my father to a hospital. But when we went to enquire about our father in the hospital we were told that he has died. The accused told us to take Rs 3000/ and perform his last rites,” said the son of the deceased man.
“I tell Sanjay Sharma to take Rs 6000/ and give two bodies. We are poor but that doesn’t mean that anyone can kill us,” he said.
The protester said, “We demand justice. The accused should be punished according to the law of the land.”
