Killer Scourge Returns
1/16/2022 10:56:49 PM

New variant of COVID-19, Omicron, spreading like wildfire in Jammu and Kashmir has created ripples. Night curfew and weekend lockdown have returned and if the cases keep on increasing there is a possibility about complete lockdown being imposed.
Experts are suggesting that it’s a mild variant but its spreading wildly and is more contagious than the Delta. People getting infected due to Omicron may not require hospitalization but in some cases the situation may worsen. The J&K administration is claiming that it’s well prepared to handle the crisis and the health system has been activated to ensure that critically ill patients get proper treatment and care.
People are worried again as the killer scourge has returned. The virus has raised its ugly head again. The basic rules to keep the Covid at bay need to be followed again. Social distancing, wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene hold the key. And getting a Covid-jab is a must to fight the pandemic. Experts are of the opinion that once the third wave ends, the Covid would enter into an endemic stage and would end. For the past two years people have been struggling to live their normal lives, but the virus is not allowing normalcy to return.
The last two waves of the Covid taught us many lessons. Many people lost their lives due to inadequate arrangements in the hospitals. If the same mistakes are repeated many lives could be lost and people can suffer. On Sunday J&K reported 3499 new positive cases and six deaths. As many as 1210 cases were reported in Jammu and 2289 in Kashmir. These figures are alarming. The deaths indicate that Covid is killing people again. The death rate is low but the fact is that people are dying and the new variant too is deadly.
If the cases continue to rise there is a possibility about the government enforcing a complete lockdown. When the second Covid wave reached its peak last year the government imposed a complete lockdown which led to the decline in cases. Coming days are going to be tough and it appears that people may have to get confined within their homes again as the virus may not relent so easily. In the Western countries the third wave peak seems to have ended but in India it’s likely to remain there till February end.
