Udhampur, Jan 16: The Safai Karamcharis engaged in door to door garbage collection has started strike and blocked road in the town here today in protest demanding release of their pending wages which they claimed are not paid to them for the last two months.
These Safai Karamcharis were engaged by private contractor whom Udhampur Municipal Committee had outsourced the garbage collection contract from every household in the town and about 40 such Safai Karamcharis were involved in the task.
A Safai Karamcharis on protest informed that at the start the contractor paid them salary for the first two months and afterwards delayed the same and whenever they visit him for salary he says to come next day.
“How can we work without wages as we too have to look after our families and others who are dependent on out salaries,”Another Safai Karamcharis said.
He also said that they even work in the time of COVID and collect garbage from the city houses but we are being delayed out salaries, which is worry-some.
Leaders of protesting Safai Karamcharis have urged upon the concerned authorities to look into their issue.
They said that Contractor charges from households per month for garbage collection but still the Safai Karamcharis are not paid salaries in time. |
