| Kashmir upper reaches get snowfall | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 7: The upper reaches of Kashmir, including the tourist resort of Gulmarg, on Monday received snowfall resulting in closure of far flung roads while the plains were lashed by rains, disrupting normal life.
The Meteorological Department forecast isolated light rain and snow over Kashmir and the Pirpanjal range of Jammu division. The plains in Jammu division will mainly experience dry weather.
Roads in parts of the frontier district of Kupwara were closed after seven-eight inches of snowfall.
Kupwara-Sadhna Top, Furkian Top and Z-Gali roads were also closed due to accumulation of about eight inches of snowfall, officials said.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains on Monday. It also received 0.8 mm of rainfall till Monday morning. The minimum temperature was 2.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.6 degrees above normal in this period of the year.
Gulmarg got 14 cm of snow and 14.2 mm of rains. The minimum temperature was a low of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.5 degree Celsius and it received 11.3cms or snowfall and 15 mm of rainfall.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu highway recorded a low of 0.6 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 1.3 degrees and Kupwara 0.7 degree Celsius on Monday. |
