Webinar on NLSA held at GDC R.S Pora

Jammu, Feb 7: Department of Physics, Government Degree College R.S. Pura, in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Munsiff Court R S Pura, Jammu under the aegies of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized a webinar on the topic “Implementation of National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) Schemes” (Legal Services to Senior Citizens – 2016). Principal of the College, Prof. Sunil Uppal, was the Chief Guest of the webinar. Ms. Kesar Parveen, Advocate Panel Lawyer TLSC Munsif Court R S Pura and Ms. Roopsi were the resource persons. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Jaipal Singh, Head, Department of Physics, GDC R.S. Pura who welcomed all the participants and defined the meaning, objective, purpose and constitutional rights of the senior citizen in the webinar on NALSA Scheme.
Kesar Parveen and Ms. Roopsi, resource persons for the webinar made the participants aware about the legal rights of the senior citizens who are the real reservoir of experience, knowledge and skills but yet nearly half of the population experience disrespect, neglect and faces innumerable challenges. These challenges are social, physical, mental, economic challenges besides emotional and psychological harms. One eight of the total world population reside in India and their percentage growth rate is highest upto 700 % as per survey conducted in the year 2011.
The Principal of the college appreciated the initiative taken by the organizers and choosing such a topic which is the need of hour in our society. He also spoke about various stages of this scheme and its benefits to help out the sufferers.
The other members present in the webinar were Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Sharma, Prof. Asha Rani, Dr. Ashwani Bassan, Mr. Amit Sharma (Adv) and Ashish Choudhary. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Balwinder Kaur. More than 95 students participated in the event.
