India ousted from Badminton Asia Team

MALAYSIA, Feb 18: The Indian women's and men's teams on Friday failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the Badminton Asia Team Championships here and crashed out after losing their group stage matches. The Indian men suffered a 2-3 defeat against Indonesia. The women lost 1-4 to Japan.
In the men's team singles matches, India Open champion Lakshya Sen and Mithun Manjunath emerged victorious. Kiran George failed to get past his opponent.
Lakshya Sen defeated Chico Aura Wardoyo 21-18, 27-25. Mithun Manjunath defeated Yonathan Ramlie 21-12, 15-21, 21-17.
Ikhsan Leonardo defeated Kiran George 13-21, 21-17, 10-21.
In the doubles, Muhammad Shouhibul Fikri and Maulana Bagas defeated Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar 10-21, 10-21.
Manjit Khwairakpam and Dingku Konthoujam lost to Leo Rolly and Daniel Marthin 16-21, 10-21.
In the women's singles, Ashmita Chaliha was the sole winner. She defeated Gunji Riko 21-17, 10-21, 21-19 in three games.
Tara Shah lost to Akechi Hina 12-21, 16-21. Nidaira Natsuki defeated Aakarshi Kashyap 13-21, 21-18, 15-21. In the doubles, Arul Radhakrishnan and Nila Valluvan suffered a 10-21, 15-21 defeat at the hands of Riko Gunji and Natsuki Nidaira.
Khushi Gupta and Simran Singhi lost to Hirokami Rui and Kati Yuna 15-21, 16-21.
With its group stage exit from the tournament, India lost the chance to earn a direct qualification for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals which start from May 8 in Thailand.
The top two teams - Korea and Indonesia -- reached the semifinal among men while Malaysia and Japan secured the semifinal berth among women.
