NEW DELHI, Mar 5: A large group of hungry Indian students said they were stranded in pouring snow in Ukraine and accused the Indian embassy of doing nothing to rescue or even help them. A video surfaced on Friday night showing the group making a desperate plea to be evacuated from Pisochyn.
In the video, a group of Indian students can be seen standing as it snows.
"We are in Pisochyn area of Ukraine, there are around 1,000 students. Contractors are (asking us) to spend $500-700 and go to Lviv by bus. There are no updates from embassy," one student said. "The contractor here is Karan Sandhu. He told us if you don't want to take a bus, go to the railway station on foot. We have been told not to walk as it is not safe. We don't know what to do," the male student added. Added another student: "It's also the Indian Embassy's mistake, we are not getting food. We get food for formality. Everyone is contradicting (each other), no one is telling us anything clearly. We don't know what to do.
"The Indian Embassy says they are working. It's getting colder, it's snowing here. They are playing with the lives of around 1,000 students and their families," the student added.
India has brought back 10,344 of its citizens, mostly students. Another 16 flights are scheduled, the External Affairs Ministry said. |
