J&K Police busts grenade throwing module of terror outfit LeT in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have busted a grenade throwing module linked with the 'proscribed terror outfit' Lashker-e-Toiba by arresting four 'terrorist' associates in Awantipora and averted major catastrophic terror attacks.
The arrested 'terrorist' associates have been identified as Aqib Manzoor Bhat, Mudasir Ahmed Bhat and Ghulam Mohd Ahanger, all residents of Haffu Tral and Waris Bashir Najar, resident of Sheikh Mohalla Chewa Uller, Tral.
Three hand grenades have been recovered from their possession, police said.
Najar was involved in throwing a grenade on Army camp at Mandoora on March 1 evening, it added.
Police said during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that they were carrying grenade throwing activities on the directions of Irshad Ahmed Bhat, resident of Wailoo Pattan, who is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in a murder case and Mustakeem Ahmed Ahangar alias Waheed, resident of Hafoo Tral, who also languishing in Central Jail Srinagar, in connection with smuggling of weapons case.
Both Mustakeem and Irshad were coordinating terror activities, even from Central Jail Srinagar. In this regard, a case vide FIR No 21/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation initiated.
More arrests were expected in the instant case, once further links were investigated and established, it added.
Two persons, including a 20-year-old girl died, while 33 others were injured in a militant grenade blast attack at the busy Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) market in Srinagar on Sunday.
