International Women’s Day celebrated, blankets distributed to women

Jammu, Mar 7: To mark the International Women’s Day, a function was held at the Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan Park, Gandhinagar where blankets and other items of daily use were distributed to the destitute women.
The function was jointly organised by the Social Welfare Department, Indian Red Cross Society, Mahajan Sabha, Gandhinagar and Mahila Shakti.
This year’s theme of the International Women’s day is “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, being observed on 8th March.
Besides blankets, hygienic kits and other essential grocery were distributed to more than 100 women. These items were provided by the Indian Red Cross Society.
M. K. Sharma, the Member Secretary of J&K Legal Services Authority was the Chief Guest and Fayaz Firdos, Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority and Jugal Mahajan, Chief Patron of Mahajan Sabha Gandhinagar were the Guests of Honour.
They spoke on the gender equality and significance of women power in sustainable inclusive development for a better tomorrow. The Womenfolk, who constitute half of the population, are the real strength of the society and cannot be ignored in any socio-economic development initiatives. Moreover, the law also does not allow gender discrimination.
The J&K Legal Services Authority provides free legal aid to women to get justice against any discrimination which they should avail for their fight for justice and welfare.
A large number of prominent citizens representing different sections of society were present on the occasion. Among other, Dr. J.G. Langer, Dr. R. K. Gupta, Bansi Lal Gupta, P. C. Gupta, Raman Mahajan and Ravi Rohmetra were present. The District Social Welfare Officer, Ajay Salaan and Women Development Officer represented the Social Welfare Department. Many women activist were also present.
