Jammu's Deaf Judokas won seven medals at National Championship

JAMMU, Mar 29: The J&K Deaf Judo team has won three gold medals, one silver and three bronze at the 10th National Deaf Judo Championship held at Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
The Judokas who bagged the gold medal in Senior Championship are Shikha Kumari in below 52 kg category, Nabeel Ali Dar in below 63 kg category and Gulshan Kumar in below 100kg category. All of them are the Alumni of the School for Speech and Hearing Handicapped being run by the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendre, a noted NGO of 40 years.
In Junior Championship, the Judokas of the School who won the medals are Sonam Chib silver medalist in below 63 kg category and Nidha-ul-Nisa in below 44kg category, Garima Misri in below 48 kg category and Ritesh Singh I below 55 kg category. All the three Judokas won bronze medals in the individual category.
The Senior Coach Suraj Bhan Singh and Manager Neha Dutta accompanied the team from Jammu.
The President K.B. Jandial and the members of the Samaj Kalyan Kendra have congratulated the Judokas for winning medals.
The three prominent Deaf Judokas who found a place in the National team for Deaflympic at Brazil are joining the Coaching Camp at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi. The camp will continue up to 27th April, 2022 and they will later leave for Brazil for Deaflympic starting from 1st May this year. The judokas are Rakesh Singh, Vishal Khajuria and Rakhshinda Mehak. Also alumni of the School for Speech and Hearing Handicapped, they have been getting coaching from Suraj Bhan Singh for the last ten years.
