Chenani launches final compendium on 'Mass Awareness Campaign' on Save River Devika

JAMMU, Mar 29: Government Degree College (GDC) Chenani launched the final compendium on 'Mass Awareness Campaign' (MAP) on Save River Devika at the hands of the Principal Secretary, Departmen of Higher Education, Rohit Kansal.
The mass awareness campaign booklet was released as part of the research project recently completed by the college under the title, "Hydro-chemical Impact Assessment, Study of Anthropogenic Pressure and Mass Public Awareness on Protection of Devika Stream and Adjoining Underground Sources of Water (Bowlis) at District Udhampur, J&K" sponsored by the J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC), Department of Science and Technology, Jammu/Srinagar. Rakesh Kumar Badyal, Special Secretary, Department of Higher Education and G M Ganie, Director Planning, Department of Higher Education, were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal Investigator of the Project and Principal, GDC, Chenani exhorted that the main purpose of the research project was to make Devika river pollution free and to bring its pristine glory back. She said that it was a matter of great pride for the institution to be able to join hands with the district administration in this big venture by way of this research contribution on the river and its adjoining Bowlis and emphasized on the importance of incorporating a research component along with a sound academic foundation in order to enable the students to develop independent critical thinking skills to enhance learning experiences while benefiting from a productive research agenda.
The Principal Secretary appreciated the efforts of Dr. Pragya and that of the students of GDC, Chenani in taking the research initiative to create public awareness and to educate the masses on the importance of water bodies and their protection as a measure of sustenance of life while highlighting the importance of research work based learning for holistic development of the students. It is pertinent to mention here that the research work executed has led to various start up ideas & recommendations that can create an impact on the community and support entrepreneurs in setting up of different ventures.
