| Hold protest outside Mayor's office, demand release of salaries | | PHE employees warn to go on tool down strike from May 12 | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 6: A large number of PHE Department employees and daily rated workers held a strong protest demonstration at Town Hall here today for government failure to provide salary to them for the last three months.
The employees under the banner of Employees United Front assembled outside the office of Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Chander Mohan Gupta and held a massive protest demonstration.
The employees had come to Town Hall to meet the Mayor and apprise him of their problems, however, on their arrival they found that his office chamber was locked. The protesting employees were informed that the Mayor had gone out.
As soon as the employees came to know that the Mayor was not available they began to shout slogans in support of their demand and also against the senior officers of the department. They alleged that authorities have failed to release the salary of February, March and April, 2022 in favour of the employees and other temporary workers of four PHE Divisions which have been transferred to JMC.
The senior leaders of Employees United front while addressing the gathering criticized the authorities for their inaction. They said the issue was brought to the notice of the authorities concerned but they have failed to resolve the issue. They said the employees and their families have been facing a lot of hardships due to non- release of their salaries. It is strange that no one among the PHE Department or JMC is taking responsibility to issue their salaries, said protesters.
"If the administration did not mend its ways then we know how to make things happen in our favour. The authorities should not take our protest lightly," said one of the protesting employees. They gave five days ultimatum to the UT administration and said if they failed to release their salary they will observe a 'tool down strike' from May 12 and will stop the water supply. |
