SRINAGAR, May 6: Army on Friday paid tributes to Major Raghunath Ahlawat who died in line of duty along the Line of Control in Kashmir. A solemn ceremony was held at Badami Bagh Cantonment where Lt Gen DP Pandey, the General Officer Commanding 15 Corps and all ranks of Chinar Corps, paid homage to the gallant officer on behalf of the proud Nation, the Army statement read. It said that Major Ahlawat, 34, was leading his team on Thursday in the Uri sector of Baramulla district for a counter infiltration operation based on a reliable intelligence input when he slipped from a cliff. " To identify a safe approach for the team he led from the front while carrying out reconnaissance on a route through a steep cliff. Unfortunately, he slipped due to bad weather and slippery conditions and fell 60 meters into a ravine. Critically injured, he succumbed to his injuries enroute while being evacuated to the nearest Army Hospital," the statement said. Maj Ahlawat, who hailed from Dwarka in New Delhi, was commissioned into the Army in 2012. He is survived by his wife and his parents. The mortal remains of the officer were taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. "In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and well-being," the statement added. |
