Caught between devil and the deep sea
5/15/2022 11:24:41 PM
Terrorists killing a Kashmiri Pandit, Rahul Bhat, within his office premises at Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has created fear among the Kashmiri Pandit employees, appointed under the Prime Minister’s Employment Package. They are urging Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to evacuate them from Kashmir to safer places.
These employees were appointed in Kashmir under PM’s package with an assurance that their lives will be protected but Rahul’s killing has terrified them. They are saying that they are ready to serve anywhere but not in Kashmir.
They have written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor and the Prime Minister informing them about their concerns.
There is no doubt about the fact that they are being targeted by Pakistan sponsored terrorists for being a Hindu and holding tricolor close to their heart. The terror bosses sitting across the Line of Control are unable to digest that Kashmiri Pandits are returning to the Valley and are re-establishing themselves. Terrorists are trying to recreate 1990s like situation to force them to leave Kashmir. These poor unarmed members of KP community have been left fear stricken and they are asking a straight question why are they being targeted? The protests that are being held across Kashmir are an indication that if their lives are not protected they may be left with no other option other than to quit their jobs to save their lives.
Members of the majority community in Kashmir have joined the protests led by KPs and are expressing solidarity with them. Muslims are openly condemning the acts of terrorists. By joining protests they have sent a message to Pakistan and the ultras sponsored by it that such cold blooded murders of innocent unarmed Kashmiri Pandits are unacceptable. The government will have to revisit the security scenario and analyze whether Pandits are really safe in Kashmir. Terrorists have changed their strategy and are choosing soft targets. These targets need to be protected. If Kashmiri Pandit employees decide to move out of the Valley citing security reasons no one can stop them.
The helmsmen will have to ensure that terrorists are kept at bay and the areas in which KPs are working or staying are secured. For Kashmiri Pandits it’s a tough call as they have been caught between the devil and the deep sea.
