Srinagar, May 15: Srinagar and other major parts of the Kashmir valley recorded the highest temperatures of the season so far as the Meteorological department forecast partly cloudy sky with very light rain over the higher reaches in J&K during the next 24 hours.
"Weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with isolated to scattered light rain over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours", an official of the MeT department said on Sunday.
Srinagar recorded the season's highest temperature so far on Saturday at 31.3 degree Celsius which was 7.4 degree Celsius above normal. Kashmir weather, an independent weather observatory, said most parts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed hot weather conditions Saturday. However, it did not break any record but was the hottest day during this period of the year so far. It said Kashmir is experiencing a heat wave and it will reduce under the influence of a weak Western Disturbance approaching and hit most likely today may cause a short spell of thunder showers. The temperature will decrease by a degree or two.
Another week WD is also approaching next week that will further decrease the day temperature by 4 to 5 degrees.
Srinagar had a minimum temperature of 13.6 degree Celsius which was 3.6 degree Celsius above normal, Pahalgam 7.4 and Gulmarg 11 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature on Sunday.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 11.0 degree Celsius against 9.0 degree Celsius on the previous night, While 5.5 degree Celsius is normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir during this time of the season. Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 7.4 degree Celsius against 5.8 degree Celsius last night. Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 13.5 degree Celsius against 12.6 degree Celsius while Qazigund recorded a low of 10.0°C against 10.2°C on the previous night, the MeT office said. |
