Working journalists delegation calls on Dy Commissioner

BARAMULLA, May 17: Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) on Tuesday met newly joined Deputy Commissioner, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar at her office and demanded establishment of a press club in the district besides appraised her about other issues of working journalists in Baramulla.
The delegation of executive body of BWJA representing different print and electronic media organizations was led by its Chairman and senior most journalists Haji Karamat Qayoom, President BWJA Zargar Gulzar and other senior journalists who sought cooperation and support from DC Baramulla in upholding the dignity and sanctity of noble profession journalism and fourth estate as there is onslaught of social media being handled unethically.
While welcoming the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Chairman Haji Karamat Qayoom reiterated that the long pending demand of establishment of press club which is the panacea to all the issues pertaining to the media fraternity as land for the same was already identified by the administration in Karipa Park.
"BWJA believes in ethics of journalism. We will always support professional journalists and there is no space for those indulging in blackmailing, extortion and yellow journalism besides people with criminal record posing as journalists should be isolated and identified," the journalists told DC Baramulla. While giving a patient hearing, DC Baramulla Dr Sehrish assured the journalists body that all their genuine demands would be met and concerns will definitely be looked into. While appreciating the role of media fraternity in highlighting public issues, she urged media fraternity to reach out to the public and ensure that their issues are brought into the notice of the administration for redressal.
"Media is a significant fourth pillar of democracy and holds an important role in the delivery of transparent and accountable governance to the people. All the demands put forth have been taken into consideration and will be seriously looked into so that the issues will be resolved in a time bound manner," she assured the media persons.
On the occasion DIO Baramulla Jehangir Akhoon, Advisor BWJA Altaf Baba, Vice President BWJA Sajad Hussan Pir, General Secretary BWJA Anzar Mohju, President Pattan Media Association- Rahi Nissar and other participants attended the meeting were Mohammad Lateef, Majeed Sheeri, Abid Nabi, Reyaz Rashid, Umar Rashid, Mudasir Ahmad, Nisar Malik, Iqbal Amin, Iqbal Bhat, Syed Mudasir and Manzoor Sheeri.
